Boris Vallée of Team Wanty-Groupe Gobert Wins in China
2018 showed the Wanty-Groupe Gobert team fight strongly from the cold cobble stones of the Spring Classics to the grueling breaks of the Tour de France. To finish out the season, Belgian Boris Vallée climbed to the top of the podium at the Tour of Taihu Lake in China this past weekend.
If you've been watching pro road racing at all this year, you have probably noticed the bright blue, orange and white bikes and team kit of the team fighting in the breaks during the Tour de France and putting on the pressure at other major races around the world. This Belgian team might lack the budget and marquee names of some bigger teams, but there's no denying Wanty-Group Gobert fights for every position in every race.
For the last race of the season, the team traveled to China to compete in the Tour of Taihu Lake in China to finish its season of hard fought racing. Supported by an outstanding team effort, Belgian rider put in a strong and smart performance to claim the overall victory.
"The team controlled the race perfectly. Without this fantastic collective work, I would never have been able to maintain the leader's jersey. My teammates gave me all their confidence and I want to thank Wesley, Marco, Mark, Kévin and Jasper warmly for that," explained Vallée moments after stepping off the bike.
This is Vallée's first season with Wanty-Group Gobert, and the 25-year old looks to maintain his fight and positive outlook for the upcoming season. "I am happy to finish my season on a positive note. I have often put myself at the service of the team, but it feels good to win again. It is a pity that I narrowly missed the win in stage two. But I have no regrets. I can prepare myself serenely for my second season and start on a good basis. I want to show myself from the first races."
