Tom Ritchey Break-Away Adventure July 2008

In July 2008, Tom hit the road to visit some retailers and explore some incredible places to ride. These Break-Away Adventures as Tom likes to call them are where he finds fertile ground for new product ideas. First stop: Ketchum, Idaho for a visit with Scott Bike USA and the Rosso’s of Elephant’s Perch – both, big supporters of Ritchey products.

Next stop, a visit with Sammy of Sammy’s Bike Shop – St Charles, Illinois

Tom launched a huge philanthropic effort called Project Rwanda. It has gained many followers who share the vision of improving life for coffee farmers in Rwanda. Tom caught up with the cross-country ride / fundraising ride for Project Rwanda as they crossed Indiana into Ohio.  Go to Projectrwanda.org to learn more.

Tom raced in the 70’s and climbed to the top of the sport attending Jr Worlds as a US rider. As he was winding down his racing career, Greg LeMond was winding his up. The racing scene provided a chance to meet and they kept in touch over the years.  A rare chance to ride together.

This adventure ended with a quick stop in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The famous “Horned Arch” caused the usual tourist effect – snap a picture. Only antidote for that is some sweet single-track in a pristine meadow.
