SAN CARLOS, Calif. - Sept. 29, 2009 - Cadel Evans of Ritchey Design-sponsored Silence-Lotto team captured the 2009 UCI Road Race World Championship title in Mendrisio, Switzerland on Sept. 27, 2009.

Evans' attack on the final climb of the final lap brought him the win. Evans was with other pre-race favorites when he attacked and opened up a 13-second gap at the top of the climb. He held this lead in a solo effort throughout the following 2.5 km to the finish line in Mendrisio.

The UCI World Championship Road Course is a 262 km undulating circuit consisting of 19 laps. Each lap has two major climbs with gradients of about 10 percent. Evans' winning attack was executed on his final ascent up the second climb.
